This Karen Higher Learning Institute is designed to provide leadership and professional training to students with refugee and IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) backgrounds as well as eligible local young Karens in Karen State.

T. Thanbyah Christian Institute was established in 2015 on the banks of the Salween River in Myanmar.

The institute offers three 3-year degrees: IT, Business Admin and English.

Graduate Success

Dr T. Thanbyah Institute is the first Karen University in Myannar

The institute has enjoyed great success over the last five years and, on 3 March, 2018, T. Thanbyah Christian Institute celebrated its inaugural graduation of 27 students.

On March 2, 2019, the second batch of 12 students completed their studies.

The 3rd Graduation was held on 7th March 2020, with 12 students getting their awards. 

The 4th Graduation was held on 20th February 2021, with 18 students graduating

T. Thanbyah Christian Institute has produced 69 graduates to date.

95% of graduates got employment working mainly in Karen State in teaching,  business administration, information technology and farming.

A number of them are pursuing further studies in Thailand and USA.

Friends of TCI Australia Inc

Friends of TCI Australia aims to support the peace and recovery process of people in Karen State and the region through the work of T. Thanbyah Christian Institute, and in their provision of higher education to the Karen and other ethnic groups in Karen state and the region.

In practical terms, Friends of TCI Australia supports the work of TCI in the areas of strategic planning, curriculum development and review, operational assistance and fund raising.

The most recent fundraising event on 10 October involving Food Fair and Sport Competition was very successful in terms of both participation and contributions.

Friends of TCI Australia supports T Thanbyah Institute in Myanmar.
